The Challenge

Traditional social media platforms lacked authentic voice-based interactions, limiting genuine connection between users.

Our Solution

Developed VOiCEON, a unique social platform focused on voice-based communication, featuring live audio rooms, voice notes, and interactive audio content.

Technologies Used

  • Firebase
  • WebRTC
  • Laravel
  • Google Cloud Speech-to-Text
  • iOS
  • Android

How it works

VOiCEON has two kinds of audio with different needs. Live rooms use WebRTC, so speakers hear each other with low enough delay to hold a conversation. Voice notes are recorded on the device, uploaded, and played back later like any other post.

A Laravel backend owns accounts, the social graph, rooms and moderation. Firebase handles push notifications and the real-time presence signals that show who is in a room and who is speaking. Voice notes are passed through Google Cloud Speech-to-Text, which makes spoken content searchable and gives moderators text to review.

The hard part

Live audio on mobile networks is where apps like this succeed or fail. People join from trains and from weak Wi-Fi, switch between the two mid-sentence, and take phone calls while in a room. Handling those interruptions cleanly on both iOS and Android, each with its own audio session rules, took more effort than any visible feature.

Moderation had to be designed in from the start as well. Audio is much harder to review than text, which is a large part of why transcription is in the pipeline.
