How the assessment works

Ten questions, four risk levels

The checklist covers the ten conditions we most often find when we are asked to take over a failing project: unclear requirements, an unrealistic timeline or budget, poor communication, missing technical expertise, no architecture review, weak testing, no risk plan, no progress tracking, no agreed success criteria, and stakeholders who have not bought in. You tick the ones that apply.

Scoring is deliberately simple. Zero or one factor is low risk, two or three is medium, four to six is high, and seven or more is critical. The items are not weighted, because in our experience the count matters more than which ones they are. A project with five of these problems is in trouble whichever five they happen to be.

What you get

A PDF report, generated in your browser and downloaded straight away. It gives your risk level, lists each factor you flagged with its likely consequence, and sets out a specific first step for dealing with each one. It takes about five minutes and you do not need to share any project documents.

Common questions

Who should fill this in?

Whoever is accountable for the project on the client side: a founder, product owner or project sponsor. It is more useful still if two people complete it separately and compare answers, because disagreement about the risks is itself a warning sign.

What do I do if my project scores high or critical?

Stop adding features and get an independent review of the code and the plan. Our Project Rescue service starts with exactly that audit, and the initial assessment comes back within 48 hours.

Is my information shared with anyone?

No. Your answers produce the report in your own browser. We receive your email address, your overall risk level and how many factors you flagged, so that we can follow up.

Does a low score mean my project is safe?

It means none of the common warning signs are visible today. Run the checklist again at each major milestone, since most of these problems appear partway through a project.
