How the estimate is worked out

The inputs that move the number

The calculator starts from a base cost for a small, well-defined AI project and scales it three ways. Project type comes first: a chatbot over existing content is the cheapest category, and computer vision or a fully custom model roughly doubles the development effort. Complexity is next, from a simple proof of concept to an enterprise build with compliance requirements. Company size is the third, because larger organizations have more systems to integrate with and more people who need to sign off.

On top of development it adds the team cost over the expected timeline, infrastructure (cloud, on-premise or hybrid), staff training, and compliance work, which is small for ordinary business data and large for regulated sectors such as finance and healthcare. A 25 percent contingency goes on at the end. We include it because AI projects carry more unknowns than ordinary software, mostly around data quality.

What the estimate cannot tell you

It does not know the state of your data. In practice that is the biggest single driver of cost: a project with clean, labeled, accessible data can come in well under the estimate, and one where the data has to be found, cleaned and joined first can exceed it. Treat the result as a range for budgeting conversations, accurate enough to decide whether the project is worth scoping properly. A fixed quote needs a conversation.

Common questions

Is the calculator free, and do I have to give my email?

It is free. We ask for a work email before showing the full breakdown, and we use it to follow up on your estimate.

How accurate is an AI cost estimate made this way?

Good enough for a first budget, not good enough for a contract. The model behind it is a set of multipliers drawn from how AI projects are typically priced. Your actual cost depends on data readiness, integration work and how accurate the system has to be before you can rely on it.

Why is training included in the cost?

Because an AI system nobody trusts does not get used. Time for your staff to learn what the system does well, where it fails and how to check its output is part of a realiztic budget.

Can I get a fixed price instead of a range?

Yes, after a scoping call. We agree the task, the success metric and the data available, then quote a fixed price for a defined first phase.
